There are many national holidays in the world, when people all over the country do not work and have special celebrations. For example in Russia the major holidays are: New Year"s Day, Victory Day. The first holiday of the year is New Year"s Day. People see the new year in at midnight on the 31st of December. They greet the new year with champagne and listen to the Kremlin chimes beating 12 o"clock. There are lots of New Year traditions in Russia. In every home there is a New Year tree glittering with colored lights and decorations. Children always wait for Father Frost to come and give them a present. Many people consider New Year"s Day to be a family holiday. But the young prefer to have New Year parties of their own. The greatest national holiday in our country is Victory Day. On the 9lh of May, 1945, the Soviet Army and its allies completely defeated the German fascists and the Second World War ended. A lot of guests from different countries of the world came to Moscow to participate in the celebrations. There are fewer public holidays in Great Britain than in other European countries. They are: Christmas Day, New Year"s Day, Easter Monday, Spring Bank Holiday. Public holidays in Britain arc called bank holidays, because the banks as well as most of the offices and shops are closed. The most popular holiday is Christmas. Every year the people of Norway give the city of London a present. It"s a big Christmas tree and it stands in Trafalgar Square. Central streets are beautifully decorated. The fun starts the night before, on the 24th of December. Traditionally this is the day when people decorate their trees. Children hang stockings at the end of their beds, hoping that Father Christmas will come down the chimney during the night and fill them with toys and sweets. New Year"s Day is less popular in Britain than Christmas. But in Scotland, Hogmanay is the biggest festival of the year. Besides public holidays there are some special festivals in Great Britain. There are also smaller, local festivals in Britain. Now a few words about holidays in Brazil. The most important event in brazil - this a festival in Rio-de-Janeiro, which passes each year at the end of February the beginning of March. The festival lasts 4 days and 4 night. In Rio there are special schools, which train the people to dance Samba and Lambada. Each of these schools exposes on a holiday about 4000 dancers and 300 drummers. Other important event in Brazil in the year is ancient religious holiday MACUMBA, which is celebrated by Brazilian in the new year eve. During this holiday on sand of a beach KOPACABANA people place drinks and meal and light candles thirsted in sand. People in the midnight throw in the water their gifts and if ocean takes them, the year will be successful, but if it throws out on a coast, the year will not present. In the different countries according to their traditions and history, there is a set of various national holidays. But there is one thing, which unites all of them: a holiday is always fun and pleasure.

Holidays
What is the best time for schoolchildren? Holidays, of course! Autumn, winter, spring and definitely summer holidays. These are the times when you can forget about homework, school and teachers.
Usually autumn holidays are not very exciting. The weather is getting worse, it"s raining and you don"t have much opportunity to walk outside for a long time. During autumn holidays my friends and I usually spend time at each other"s places playing computer games.
Winter holidays are much more interesting! I like skating and my family usually goes to the skating rink in a nearby park. Sometimes my friends and I go outside the city to the ski lodge. We rent skis and go cross-country skiing in the forest. Just before the New Year"s Day a big fir tree is set in our park. It is decorated with garlands and large toys. Ice hills are also made in the park. I like going to the park with my younger sister and my friends. At New Year"s night my family usually goes outside. My father and I make a fireworks display. My mother always says that it is dangerous, but we all know that she likes our fireworks. We also congratulate everyone who we meet with the New Year and they congratulate us back. I like it that people are so kind during this holiday!
The longest term is behind and spring holidays come. It is getting warm every day, streams are flowing in the streets. It is fun, but you should be careful not to slip on the spring ice and fall in a puddle! I walk with my friends, go to the cinema, ride a bike or roller-skate.
At last summer has come! The books have been taken back to the library, now other children will use them next year. Summer is my favourite season. I can wear only a T-shirt, jeans or shorts and light trainers or flip-flops. I have three months of rest which I can devote to myself and to my friends. During the first two weeks of summer holidays my family and I go to some resort. We have already been to Turkey and Egypt and this year we are going to Spain. We like sunbathing and swimming in the sea. I wish we could do this all year round!
Then we go back to the city and my sister and I go to our grandparents" country house. It is not worse than holidays at the sea. Our country house is rather far from our city - about two and a half hours by car. But it is worth going there anyway. I take a bike and a games console with me. I meet my friends there. I see some of them every day at school and I don"t see others for the whole year, so I have an opportunity to meet them again and catch up. We ride bikes, sunbathe on the river bank, swim in the river and communicate with each other.
I wish holidays were all year round!

Любимое время года

Лето – мое любимое время года, потому что в это время тяжелые и напряженные школьные дни остаются позади и нас ждут длинные каникулы. Я всегда планирую множество интересных вещей на летние каникулы.

Куда обычно езжу

Почти каждый год я провожу каникулы в деревне в доме бабушки и дедушки. Я обожаю это место, потому что там очень красиво. Там есть река и лес, куда мы с друзьями ходим собирать грибы и ягоды. В хорошую погоду мы также любим купаться в реке и загорать. Кроме того, я всегда рад помочь бабушке и дедушке по дому или в саду – полить растения или собрать фрукты и овощи. Я люблю ходить на рыбалку с дедушкой и потом жарить рыбу на костре. И что немаловажно, у меня есть возможность подышать свежим деревенским воздухом и на время забыть о городской пыли и смоге. Я и в самом деле прекрасно провожу время с бабушкой и дедушкой. Если бы только я мог навещать их чаще.

Как я провел прошлое лето

Прошлым летом мы с родителями ездили на море. Это были мои первые каникулы на морском побережье, и я даже не мог себе представить, что все будет настолько замечательно. Мы поехали в августе, и нам повезло, что все время была солнечная погода и теплое море. Было так приятно ничего не делать, а только загорать и плавать. Там было много всяких развлечений, но больше всего мне понравилось катание на водных мотоциклах и дискотеки. Я также строил замки из песка с моей младшей сестрой и учил ее плавать. Мне также удалось завести новых друзей, и мы весело провели время вместе. Мы также ездили на экскурсии. Больше всего мне запомнилась поездка на джипах через реки и горы. К сожалению, время пролетело очень быстро, и нам нужно было возвращаться домой. Однако, до школы оставалось еще несколько недель, и я провел это время, читая книги, слушая музыку, смотря телевизор, играя в компьютерные игры и гуляя с друзьями.

Заключение

В заключение хотелось бы сказать, что я обычно с радостью возвращаюсь в школу, потому что могу встретиться с друзьями учителями, но потом я начинаю снова ждать летних каникул.

Summer Holidays

My favourite season

Summer is my favourite season of the year because hard and busy school time is over and long holidays are waiting for me. I always plan a lot of wonderful things to do during my summer vacation.

My holidays

Almost each year I spent my holidays in the country at my grandparents’. I adore that place for its landscape. There is a nice river and the woods where my friends and I can gather berries and mushrooms. We also enjoy swimming in the river and sunbathing when the weather is fine. Apart from this, I’m always ready to help my grannies around the house or in the garden watering plants and gathering fruit and vegetables. I like going fishing with my grandpa and cooking the fish over the fire. And one more thing which is worth saying is that I have a chance to breathe fresh country air and forget about the dust and the smokes of the city. Indeed I have a great time in the country with my lovely grandparents. I wish I could visit them more often.

Last summer

Last summer I spent my holidays at the seaside with my family. It was for the first time and I couldn’t even imagine such excellent holidays. We were there in August and were lucky to have sunny weather and warm sea all the time. It was so pleasant to have a rest doing nothing except taking sunbathes and swimming. There were different kinds of entertainment but best of all I liked water scooters and discos. I was also playing with my little sister on the sand and taught her to swim. Besides, I made some new friends and we had a lot of fun together. We went on several field trips. The one I will never forget was riding a jeep across numerous rivers in the mountains. Unfortunately the time passed very quickly and we had to return back home. However, there were still two more weeks left before school. I spent that time reading books, listening to music, watching TV, playing computer games and going out with my friends.

As for me, the best holidays are in summer. All the people enjoy summer holidays very much. It is a great pleasure to have a rest after a whole year of hard work or study. Some people like to spend their holidays in cities, visiting theatres and museums. But a great number of people go to the seaside in summer.
I like to have rest at the seaside best of all. I do not like crowds when I am on holidays. My parents and I always have our holidays on the coast. Sea and sunshine that is what we look forward to every summer. Usually we go to a holiday centre.

Last year we spent our holidays in such a centre. Each day was full of small joys. We swam in the sea, lay in the sun, played different games and had a wonderful time. It was a nice rest. If everything is OK this year we will go to the seaside again. В прошлом году мы были как раз в таком пансионате. Каждый день был полон маленьких радостей. Мы плавали в море, загорали, играли и замечательно проводили время. Отдых был хорошим. Если все будет хорошо, мы снова поедем на море в этом году.

Почти 100 дней сплошного удовольствия, даже если тебе не удастся поехать в какое-нибудь поездку, о которой ты давно мечтал. Можно прочитать массу интересных книг, просыпаться позднее обычного, ложиться спать в любое время, поиграть с друзьями и съездить на море. Чего только не предлагает лето!

I always use summer holidays that I need for my future studies. I improve my English, read literature and some historical materials. This work brings benefit and pleasure: reading books and listening to English songs, watching documentaries and training your memory while memorizing some verses, English phrases or dates. I am glad that my mother has taught me to do it easily and without any nervous tension. If you treat this work as a game or an amusement you can enjoy a part of the summer and facilitate for your future busy learning season.

Я всегда использую лето для не напряженной работы над предметами, которые мне нужны для моей будущей учебы. Я изучаю английский, читаю литературу и историю. Такая работа приносит и пользу и удовольствие: почитать книги и послушать английские песни, посмотреть документальные фильмы и потренировать свою память заучиванием некоторых стихов, английских фраз или дат. Я рада, что моя мама научила меня делать это легко и без нервного напряжения. Если относиться к такой работе как к игре или развлечению, то можно отлично и с пользой провести часть лета и облегчить будущий напряженный сезон учебы.

This year my family and I spent ten days at the seaside in Odessa. It is a beautiful city on the coast of the Black Sea and there"s always plenty of entertainment and wonderful beaches. our relatives or in a hotel. This time we did not only beached, but also went on boat trips, visited a water park and went fishing. The weather in late June was hot and most of the time we spent near the water. In the evenings we went to a restaurant and walked along the famous promenade. Odessa is gorgeous in the evening.

В этом году мы с семьей провели 10 дней в Одессе, на море. Это прекрасный город на берегу Черного моря и там всегда масса развлечений и великолепных пляжей. Мы останавливаемся у родственников или в отеле. В этот раз мы не только проводили на пляже, но и ездили на прогулки на катере, посещали аквапарк, рыбачили. Погода в конце июня была жаркая и большую часть времени мы проводили у воды. Вечером ходили в рестораны и гуляли по знаменитой набережной. Одесса великолепна вечером.

In July I was in the country house with my grandparents. The terrain is very beautiful here: the lake, the fields, a lot of trees. The garden is planted with fruit trees, and there are a lot of vegetables. In the nearby village one can buy fresh milk and eggs. If there were the Internet and TV, it would be possible to spend the entire summer in the village. Unfortunately, the summer house is far from the city and we have to get there by train or a shuttle bus. To my shame, I could not do without all modern conveniences for a long time and my visit lasted not more than a week.

В июле я была на даче у бабушки и дедушки. Местность здесь очень красивая: озеро, поля, много деревьев. В саду растут фруктовые деревья, кусты малины и много овощей. В соседней деревне можно купить свежее молоко и яйца. Если бы там был интернет и телевизор, то можно было бы проводить все лето, как в деревне. К сожалению, дача далеко от города и добираться туда приходится на электричке или маршрутном автобусе. К своему стыду, я не могу долго обходиться без всех современных удобств и мой визит длился не более недели.

In late August our friends and the family made a trip to Bulgaria. It was a wonderful time. Several excursions to the small towns on the coast, a lot of delicious food and, of course, a beach holiday. We stayed in a magnificent hotel with its beautiful grounds, excellent cuisine and entertainment. I met a few guys from other countries and we had fun on the beach and in the evening. With some of them now I correspond and we plan to meet next year.
